BIRMINGHAM - AL -
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The victim, 15-year-old Jermaine Walton, was found Sunday at Railroad Park near 14th Street South.
According to police, Walton suffered from a gunshot wound. He was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. Walton died at approximately 4:45 a.m. Monday.
Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper says, "This is an active investigation where we're calling on the public to give us the information we need. I understand that many people are focusing on the location but let's not forget the victim. We've had hundreds of thousands of people to visit and enjoy the park but it only takes on troublemaker to ruin it for others."
No arrests have been made in the case. This is the first shooting since Railroad Pak opened in 2010.
