Birmingham woman killed in Highway 119 accident

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

The Alabama Department of Public Safety reports that 46-year-old Tracy M. Owens, of Birmingham, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 119 in Shelby County Friday.

Owens was driving a 1999 Toyota Solara when she collided with a 2012 Toyota Highlander being driven by 47-year-old John Traywick of Pleasant Grove.

Traywick had one passenger, Joseph Traywick, 58, also of Pleasant Grove. Both men were transported to UAB Hospital with unknown injuries.

Owens was transported to the Shelby County Coroner's Office.

Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the accident.


Update from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office:

At approximately 11:42 a.m. Friday, a motor vehicle crash with injuries occurred on Alabama Highway 119 (Cahaba Valley Road) near the intersection of Meadowood Drive that resulted in the closure of the highway in this area. 

At this time, deputies have reopened the highway to traffic in both directions.

Law enforcement officers conducting the crash investigation may still be present in the area.  Motorists are urged to continue to exercise caution as they travel on this highway.

Traffic was blocked off in Shelby County Friday after a fatal crash.  So far, we know one person has been killed in an accident on Highway 119 near Oak Grove Baptist Church.  Traffic is being diverted at Doug Baker Boulevard, and also at Asbury United Methodist Church.

Police tell ABC 33/40 it could a while before this is cleared up.
