HOMEWOOD - AL -
The city of Homewood will soon have a new community center.
City leaders broke ground on the new building, Friday. It's estimated to cost $16.5 million and was paid for with tax dollars, according to Mayor Scott McBrayer.
It will be state-of-the-art and will include a swimming pool and recreation area, among other highlights.
McBrayer says it was time for a change.
"Our other community center was tired and worn out," he said. "But this is going to be a great addition to the city of Homewood and we look forward to completing it."
B. L. Harbert will be building the new center. It should be complete by summer 2014.
