BIRMINGHAM - AL -

It's taken a month, but Birmingham City Council has given the stamp of approval for $73 million in bond money.

"Excitement at city hall is short and fleeting," Mayor William Bell said. "Move forward."

Bell is happy for the approval, which gives the green light to city projects like $9 million for street repaving and $10 million for improvements to city parks. That's something councilwoman LaShunda Scales is still unsure of.

"I hope that we will not be forgotten," she said.

She says, during the course of the bond money discussions, there's been too much back-and-forth and uncertainty when it comes to which parks will receive funding.

Originally, councilors were asked for their top three projects. Scales is hopeful that's still the case. Bell says it's up to the councilors.

"We're waiting for the council to tell us exactly and specifically what they want to have us do," Bell said.

Scales voted in favor of the bond money, but says she will be watching very closely to make sure every cent goes where it's supposed to.

"Hopefully, we will not be overlooked and I am going to be monitoring that and I hope that this is going to be a benefit to the entire city."
