ANNISTON - AL -

It's still unclear what caused a fire to destroy a more than 100-year-old building in Anniston Saturday.

Firefighters are working to determine the cause, but first, a portion of the building will have to be torn down because it poses a risk of collapsing.

The building was used by ServiceMaster, a business specializing in residential & commercial cleaning and disaster restoration.

"We've got it narrowed down to a certain part of the building where we believe the fire started," said Anniston Fire Investigator Lt. Bryan Tumlin. "We haven't been able to get in there and thoroughly go through it."

Firefighters were able to stop the blaze from spreading to a new building behind the century-old brick building.

"The business owner told me this morning that we probably saved his business just by keeping off the back part, and they were able to stay operating," Lt. Tumlin added.

A portion of Noble Street will be closed to the public until the wall can be carefully torn down, which investigators say will happen as soon as possible.
