City of Calera could raise sales tax, hearings scheduled

The City of Calera has announced public hearing dates for residents to give input on a possible increase in the city's sales tax rate. The proposal calls for a one-cent increase. The current rate is 8%. If passed, the sales tax rate would go up to 9%.

According to today's notice, the Mayor and Council will hold three Public Hearings:

Monday, March 18, 2013 @ 6:30 p.m.
Monday, March 25, 2013 @ 6:30 p.m.
Monday, April 1, 2013 @ 6:30 p.m.

The April 1 date is a Special Called Meeting. The meetings will be held at Calera City Hall.
