Adding Fish To Your Diet Can Be A Life Saver

Posted: Updated:

We hear a lot of talk about diet these days, because what we eat is literally killing us.

Heart disease is the number-1 cause of death in America.

But changing our diets can greatly cut that risk.

We talked with one expert who says adding more fish can cut the risk of heart disease by 1/3rd.

Our national guide lines recommend 2-3 servings of fish a week to reduce our risk of heart disease.

But most of us average less that half of that amount.

Cardiologist Dr. R. Lori Mosca, says the best fish to eat are the oily species like trout, salmon and tuna.

That's because they are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, that help our blood vessels be healthy and efficient.

Mosca also notes that when you eat fish, you're not eating foods that are heavy in saturated fats.

She also notes that eating fish doesn't have to be expensive.

Eating more canned tuna can be a huge help.

It's cheap, convenient and it can be mixed in with all kinds of dishes.

The dishes range from pasta, to soups, salads and sandwiches.
