BIRMINGHAM - AL -
Many Birmingham parents feel their concerns about the proposed school consolidation plan aren't being heard. Some are particularly worried about seventh and eighth graders being moved into high schools.
They now have several chances to voice concerns on the plan that would close seven Birmingham City schools and consolidate eleven others. The first meeting is Monday at carver High School. Tuesday, one is being held at Huffman High School. The final one is Wednesday at Jackson-Olin High School.
All the meetings are from 6 until 8 p.m..
The proposed plan would save the district eight million dollars. The state appointed CFO says it would not result in classroom overcrowding. He says it would leave room for seven thousand additional students.
133 employees would also lose their jobs.
