The honorable Judge Carole Smitherman was recognized during her investiture ceremony.

It took place at More Than Conquerors Faith Church, Saturday.

During the special commemoration, Judge Smitherman received recognition from Sen. Linda Coleman from Gov. Robert Bentley's office.

Smitherman was elected in November to the Jefferson County Circuit Court, serving in place 13.

Smitherman had previously served on the Birmingham City Council for more than 10 years, before resigning from her seat in January.
