The Birmingham Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened around 3 p.m. in the Smithfield community on Friday.
Officers found a victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound at 1049 5th Street North, near the west elbow of Malfunction Junction today. Police believe the shooting occurred nearby at the intersection of 5th Place N. and 10th Court N. and officers are currently at both locations collecting evidence.
The victim is considered to have suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Trauma Unit at UAB Hospital. Police currently do not have a suspect in custody.
