Reaction to SCOTUS arguments over Voting Rights Act of 1965

Posted: Updated:

The future of one section of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 rests now with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Justices must now decide whether Section Five of that act is unconstitutional. This provision requires only 16 states get federal approval for any change to election laws. A decision from the Supreme Court is expected in the summer.

The case before the court is Shelby County vs. Holder. Focus @ 4 met with people involved in this case as well as an expert who talked about issues involving the case as well as a possible outcome.
