BIRMINGHAM - AL -

Birmingham City Council had a special guest in attendance, Tuesday.

Alan Drennen was there in support of the 50-year anniversary of the civil rights movement.

Drennen is the sole survivor of the original city council that was formed back in 1963.

Drennen remembers difficult days back then, but says that particular body of city government always worked for the people of Birmingham.

"We had serious problems that needed dedicated efforts," Drennen said. "And, I believe, that our council and Mayor Boutwell, made a difference."

Council also presented Drennen with a resolution, honoring his efforts during the civil rights movement.
