Update: One dead in Birmingham house fire

    The Etowah County Sheriff's Office says an inmate kitchen worker escaped the Etowah County Detention Center Friday morning. 

Update:

It is believed that the fire started around 2:30am in the kitchen, when the victim dozed off while cooking.

A 16 year old in the house was awakened by the fire and alerted the others to get out of the house, but 46-year-old Rodney Dewayne Fancher was trapped in the back of the house and was not able to escape.

When firefighters arrived, they found 3 children and 1 adult outside the home.

Update:
Birmingham fire crews have confirmed that one person has died during the fire at 1560 Druid Hill Drive. The victim was a man in his fifties. There were also 3 kids in the house at the time of the fire, and all of them made it out OK.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue investigators are on the scene of an overnight house fire.

According to Birmingham dispatchers, the fire was at a home on Druid Hill Drive.

ABC 33/40 has a crew on the way to the scene to get more information.
