Alabamians nominated for James Beard Awards

Some talented culinarians from Alabama are getting nationwide recognition. They're semifinalists for coveted James Beard Awards. Birmingham's Highlands Bar and Grill is nominated for Outstanding Restaurant. It was also nominated in 2012. Two Alabamians are nominated for Best Chef in the South Region. They are James Lewis from Birmingham's Bettola, and Rob McDaniel, the chef at Springhouse in Alexander City. Also, Jim Pihakis, owner of Jim 'N Nick's, is nominated for Outstanding Restaurateur.

The final nominees will be announced March 18th, and the winners named May 6th, in New York City.
