1995 BRIGHTON HOMICIDE CASE:

This week's Crime Stoppers report focuses on a cold case that happened almost 18 years ago. Family members are hoping for justice for Irene Carter, who was killed in her Brighton house May 21, 1995. She was 74 years old.

"I wish someone would speak up because my grandmother was a nice lady, and she loved everybody," said Carter's granddaughter, Gail Carter.

Detectives said Carter's family had returned to Brighton early Sunday morning. They dropped Carter off at her house on Watts Street but knew something was wrong when she didn't answer the telephone later that day. Someone had robbed and killed Carter.

"They stabbed her in her neck with a triangular piece of glass about 20 times, and she bled to death," said Gail. "Anything that anybody knows that they could tell would help, we would be greatly appreciate."

Authorities refuse to give up on this case, so if you have any information, contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
