UAB Blood Drive Scheduled for This Week

BIRMINGHAM - AL -

UAB is holding a major blood drive in hopes of overcoming a winter blood shortage.

The blood drive will begin Monday, February 18th and last through March 1st. 

The hospital is hoping to replenish supplies of O negative blood and aphaeresis platelets.

It will take place on the UAB Hospital North Pavilion February 18th thru 23rd, then continue at UAB Highlands February 26th, 28th, and March 1st.

Hours for the North Pavilion drive are:
Monday, Feb. 18, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 20, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 21, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 22, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 23, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Hours for the Highlands Hospital drive are:
Tuesday, Feb. 26, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Thursday, Feb. 28, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday, Mar. 1, 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Eligible donors can make an appointment to donate at www.givelife.com using sponsor code "UAB" or at 1-800-RED-CROSS.


Donors will be eligible for prize giveaways. Validated parking is available at the Fourth Avenue parking deck for the North Pavilion drive. Parking is free at UAB Highlands. Donors should bring a photo ID.  

Nationally, UAB is one of the largest users of blood supplied by the Red Cross. Donors can give blood up to six times a year, every eight weeks.
