Morning after pill usage climbs

Posted: Updated:

Birth control pills remain the most popular form of contraception for women, however, the use of the morning after pill has risen dramatically in the last decade.

Numbers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are staggering. In 2002 just 4% of women had used the emergency contraception. By 2010, that had just to eleven percent.

Most women surveyed by the CDC said they had used the morning after pill only once. Women in their early 20s, those who never married, and those in college used emergency contraception more than other women. The women surveyed were sexually active and ranged in age from 15 to 44.
