Birmingham's Cooper Green lawsuit against JeffCo dismissed

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM - AL -

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the City of Birmingham against Jefferson County for the closure of the county hospital.

Prior to the December 31 closing, the city asked the federal judge to step in and stop the county from closing Cooper Green Mercy Hospital.

Judge Thomas Bennett heard the request Thursday and denied the city's request. A few months ago, he ruled the county had no obligation to operate an indigent care hospital.
