JEFFERSON COUNTY-AL -
Jefferson County leaders announced plans Thursday to create the largest consolidated 911 center in Alabama. The $4.5 million center will be housed in the Center Point Satellite Courthouse.
"For my budget, it means a savings of $1.6 million dollars," said Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale. "The citizens are going to get the services a little bit faster, and they can rest a little easier."
Currently, all 911 calls are answered by the Sheriff's Office Communication Center, then calls are dispatched to different agencies. The new center will consolidate operations from a central location.
Construction is slated to begin next week and is expected be finished in early August.
