Hunters and Anglers impact Alabama's economy

Posted: Updated:

The 948,000 people that hunt or fish in Alabama have a tremendous impact on the state's economy. In 2011, hunters spent $1.9 billion with a ripple effect of $2.9 billion, and supported 37,476 jobs in the state. New data released by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation points to the importance of sportsmen and women's activities in Alabama and across the nation..

Jeff Crane, President of the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation, says "Many people may not fully comprehend how important hunting and fishing are to the fabric of this country. Yet nationally there are more people who hunt or fish than go bowling, and their spending would land them at #24 on the Fortune 500 list."

Nationwide, there are more than 37 million hunters and anglers age 16 and up, who spent $90 billion on hunting and fishing in the United States in 2011.
