American Airlines and US Airways are in advanced talks over a merger that could create the biggest airline in the world.
An official announcement could come as early as next week.
Travel experts say if the deal goes through, airfare could become even more expensive.
"Mergers typically lead to higher prices, any time two airlines merge that means less competition and less competition means higher prices," says Genevieve Shaw Brown, the Travel and Lifestyle Editor for ABC News.
Frequent flyer members of both airlines should be able to use their miles on more routes.
Passengers will notice few changes in the near future as it should take a year or more for the merger to be complete.
