The Tech Guy admits it: he's cheap.
That's why at the Consumer Electronics Show, he was happy to meet with a company called Ooma. The company provides VOIP home phone service nearly free. You'll still pay some taxes, so for most people, they can keep on talking for under $4 per month.
Ooma includes some advanced features- including being able to check call logs and voicemails online from anywhere in the world. More extensive features are available with a Premier plan, for about $10 per month.
Setup is very easy, and in most cases, you can make your first call about ten minutes after you start.
Some people may experience a very short delay during their calls, but it may be entirely un-noticeable.
