Civil Rights photos displayed at Birmingham Public Library

Photographs from the 1950s and 1960s, depicting the heart of the Civil Rights movement now are on display at the Birmingham Public Library.

This exhibit shows photos never before seen.

The exhibit, is called "Unseen... Unforgotten. Civil Rights photographs from the Birmingham News."

It features 41 photos from the newspaper's archives.

The collection was drawn from more than 5,000 unseen Civil Rights era images.

The photos have been digitalized and feature prominent figures. Including, Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Chanda Temple with the Birmingham Public Library says, "We really want people to come down. Look at this, look at these photos and learn about Birmingham's history. They will find out so much rich history, not only in the exhibit, but in the Birmingham Public Library."

The display is on the fourth floor of the downtown library. The exhibit runs through March 28.
