Food pantry at Salvation Army in Bessemer is empty

BESSEMER - AL -

The Salvation Army community center in Bessemer is asking for help stocking their empty food pantry.  Personnel says that an average of 50-60 families in the area seek food assistance every month.  Most of them have small children.  This month, a depleted food pantry means families could be turned away.  Each year, thousands of pounds of food are distributed, but due to recent low donation numbers, they will not be able to distribute food until their inventory is refilled.  Items needed are canned goods such as soups, meats, fruits, vegetables and tomato sauces.  Other items are dry goods such as rice, instant potatoes, pasta, peanut butter and breakfast items. Monetary donations are also being accepted.  If you would like to make a donation, you can drop them off at 525 13th St. North in Bessemer.  Donation drop-offs are accepted Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  For more information, call (205) 425-4303.
