A White House photo of President Barack Obama skeet shooting at Camp David in 2012 has been released Saturday, two days ahead of his trip to Minnesota to discuss gun control.
The picture, dated August 4, 2012, shows Obama firing what appears to be a shotgun. The president was asked if he had ever fired a gun in a January 27 interview with The New Republic Magazine, and he openly admitted to shooting guns on many occasions.
"Yes, in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," Obama said before being asked if the whole family has fired a gun.
"Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there." the president said. "And I have a profound respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations. And I think those who dismiss that out of hand make a big mistake."
A spokesman with the National Rifle Association, a group that has vehemently opposed Obama's request to Congress to ban assault weapons and create legislation to require background checks on every gun purchase, sneered at the leaked photo of the president when asked for a response from the Associated Press, saying, "One picture does not erase a lifetime of supporting every gun ban and every gun-control scheme imaginable."
