February is American Heart Month. Heart disease is the leading case of death in the United States. Every minute, one person will die from a coronary event.
This month, UAB will hold events and free screenings on the second floor of the North Pavilion of UAB hospital. The events include the following:
February 7 - 11 am -1 PM - "Get Moving!" A discussion of exercise plans and walking trails; free athletic socks and free blood pressure screenings.
February 12-13 - 8 am-2 PM - Free information and giveaways
February 14 - 11 am-1 PM - "Get Educated!" Learn the risks and health behaviors associated with hypertension and heart health; free coffee mugs and free blood pressure screenings.
February 21 - 11 am -1 PM - "Get Life's Simple 7!" Learn the American Heart Association's "7 Simple Steps to Live Better"; free backpacks and free blood pressure screenings.
February 28 - 11 a.m.- 1 PM - Heart Healthy Cooking featuring UAB Hospital's Chef Doug Allen and UAB interventional cardiologist Mark Sasse, MD. Come sample some heart-healthy dishes and receive printed copies of the recipes; free blood pressure screenings.
