Student faces federal charges after false report of gunman on campus

Bryant Hairston, accused of falsely reporting he saw a gunman on campus

Wise County, VA -

A student at the University of Virginia's College at Wise accused of falsely reporting a gunman on campus is now facing federal charges. Police say Bryant Hairston called 911 shortly before 9:00 PM on January 23 and reported that he had seen a gunman on campus.

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Abington, VA, Federal authorities have charged Hairston with knowingly making false, fictitious and fraudulent statements and representations.

The call prompted university officials to place the school on lockdown.
