Business leaders and community members gathered Friday on a mission to break "the monopoly of mediocrity" in schools.
The Birmingham Business Alliance and the US Chamber of Commerce held a summit at the McWane Science Center. Members say all students must receive a quality education in order to be workforce and college-ready. Participants offered ideas such as increasing funding for pre-K programs, giving financial support to communities and enhancing parental involvement.
The BBA plans to use the ideas for its existing workforce development programs.
