A statue of hall of fame coach Bobby Bowden will reside at Samford University.

Samford Athletics Director Martin Newton says the statue will likely be unveiled at the start of the 2013 football season.

Bowden began his coaching career when the school was named Howard College. In four seasons, he led the team to a 31-6 record. Combined with his win totals as head coach of West Virginia and Florida State, Bowden finished with an NCAA record 377 victories in his career.

The original plan was to put the Bowden statue outside the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, which sparked a debate as to whether the statue belonged. An agreement could not be found, which led to the alternate location to be found at Samford University.
