Lions and tigers and bears and more! Birmingham Zoo's 800 animals helped draw record crowds in 2012.

More than half a million visitors came through the gates, setting an all-time attendance record since the Zoo became a private, 501(c)3 organization in 1999. Attendance increased eight percent year-to-year.  ZooLight Safari, the annual holiday event, also set a record attendance.

Birmingham Zoo visitors were drawn to behind-the-scene tours, summer camps, birthday parties, animal walkabouts and other events designed to spark interest and raise attendance at the facility.

The Birmingham Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoo and Aquariums.
