According to an al.com report, Alabama Media Group and Advance Central Services Alabama have decided to put The Birmingham News building up for sale in an effort to find a more suitable location for its newly-organized operation.

The Birmingham News moved into the 110,000-square-foot building at 2201 4th Avenue North in August of 2006, and since October, it has served as the headquarters for the News' digital operation al.com Birmingham, whose previous office was located inside the Pepper Place Building on 2nd Avenue South.

In the article, Cindy Martin, president of Alabama Media Group, is cited as saying the decision to sell is not for financial reasons.

"It's always been part of our strategy to have the Alabama Media Group in a building that is conducive to community socialization," Martin said to statewide industry reporter Dawn Kent.

EGS Commercial Real Estate will handle the massive commercial listing.
