In September of 2012 the
State Board of Education Intervention Team contacted the Office of District
Attorney Brandon Falls after discovering serious financial discrepancies in the
Birmingham Board of Education Transportation Division.
An investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Jefferson
County District Attorney's Office has resulted in charges against four people
involving the theft of over $400,000 worth of automotive parts. Three were
employees of the Birmingham Board of Education and one was an employee of the
auto parts supplier.
Warrants for Maury Pettway, Marcellous
Blackmon, and Rodney Everson of Birmingham have been issued charging them with
theft first degree and use of public position for personal gain.
A warrant for Kimberly
Watson of Birmingham has been issued charging her with theft first degree.
Three of the suspects work
in the Board of Education Transportation Division.
