Serial bank robbery suspect in police custody

Jimmy Dawson Cunningham Jr. is in police custody in connection to five bank robberies in January. Jimmy Dawson Cunningham Jr. is in police custody in connection to five bank robberies in January.

The Pelham Police Department reports that a suspect in Monday's robbery of Union State Bank is in custody.

Jimmy Dawson Cunningham Jr., 39, has been taken into custody in connection to four bank robberies in Birmingham and one in Cullman.

Deputies with the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Task Force and Birmingham Police officers found Cunningham inside a home in the 2000 Block of 36th Avenue North around noon Tuesday.

Cunningham faces robbery charges in Jefferson County, Mountain Brook, Cullman and Pelham.

Cunningham is suspected of robbing the following banks:

NBC Bank in Cahaba Heights on January 3

PNC Bank in Mountain Brook on January 8

First Community Bank in Cullman on January 10

Regions Bank in Mountain Brook on January 10

Union State Bank in Pelham on January 14

Police say Cunningham will be questioned in the coming hours and more information will be released following the conclusion of questioning.

    A federal judge is delaying his decision on an Alabama law that could close some abortion clinics.
