Between now and the first week in March, a young new star will be born on a Birmingham runway. Middle school and high school students are vying to have their designs modeled in this year's Birmingham Fashion Week's competition. These designs aren't made of typical materials.
This "art" already is on display at the Birmingham museum of art. The teenage designers were not allowed to use fabric or use the sewing method to create their designs. And what they came up with was definitely out of the box.
At stake is five-hundred dollar scholarship for first place, three-hundred for second, and two-hundred for third. The designers used everything. They used CD's, paper, beads, bubble wrap, even computer keyboards to construct their designs.
Birmingham fashion week starts on February 23rd. The student designs will be at the museum from now until February 10th. The top 30 designs will be seen on the runway during fashion week, then scholarship winners will be announced
