Game to honor the late Coach Gene Bartow this weekend

Posted: Updated:

The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center and UAB Men's Basketball are teaming up Saturday for the fourth Bartow Classic.  It is a fundraiser for the Coach Gene Bartow Fund for Cancer Research.  This will also be last time UAB Blazers will face the University of Memphis as Conference USA rivals.

The game is sponsored by UAB Medicine.  Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. This game recognizes the late UAB Men's Basketball Coach and Athletics Director Gene Bartow for his decades of commitment to UAB and intercollegiate sports. This year's event comes a year after Gene Bartow's passing and continues to raise awareness about the important cancer research conducted at UAB. Bartow, who retired from collegiate coaching in 1996, underwent treatment at the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center for stomach cancer.

UAB Athletics will donate $2 for every ticket sold (excluding season tickets) to the Coach Gene Bartow Fund for Cancer Research, which was established in December 2009. Tickets for the game are $27 for lower level reserved seats and $22 for upper level reserved seats.   To purchase tickets, click here or call 205-975-UAB1 (8221).
