Alan Thompson, Calera native, dies after weekend crash

Tallassee students and teachers are mourning the loss of Alan Thompson, Southside Middle School principal, who died in a car crash Saturday evening.

Alabama State Troopers say Thompson was killed after his 2010 Chevrolet Impala collided with a 2001 Ford Taurus, belonging to 22-year old Jeremy Stroud at the intersection of Alabama 14 and Cherokee Trail Road. Stroud was not injured in the accident.

Thompson, a Calera native, was in his first year as principal of Southside Middle School.
