Fatal accident on Jefferson Ave. leaves mother and child dead, truck dangling from bridge

Birmingham Police and Fire are working a fatal accident on Jefferson Avenue Sunday after a truck wrecked on the 24th Street SW overpass, nearly going over the side.

Sgt. Johnny Williams confirmed that one person has died from injuries sustained in the accident that happened around 12:30 p.m.

It is unknown at this time if anyone else was inside the truck.

Update:

Sgt. Johnny William reports that two people have died in an accident on Jefferson Avenue.

A mother and child were killed in the single-vehicle wreck on the 24th Street SW overpass. The driver of the vehicle, the husband and father of the victims, was the lone survivor.

It is unknown at this time if the man sustained injuries during the incident.

    The family of Justin Sollohub took him off of life support three years ago Monday. "He lived from the 24th to the 25th for the organ donation," Jeniffer Morris said about her son. "Organ donation needs to be important to everybody. We never know, when there's somebody in our [family], when it hits home, that somebody needs an organ.
