Shelby County looks to add permanent School Resource Officers

Posted: Updated:

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is now encouraging citizens to contact county commissioners about permanent School Resource Officers.

Shelby County Sheriff Chris Curry re-assigned deputies from regular patrols to the schools as a safety measure.

Last week, Curry asked the county commission for additional funding for overtime pay, but the commission denied any immediate funding.

The Sheriff knows his office will be over budget, but says children's safety is more important.
