The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a fatal Walker County plane crash that happened shortly before 11 p.m. January 1st about a mile away in an area off Highway 5 and Wells Loop.

According to J.C. Poe, Walker Co. Coroner, Jordan Montgomery, 17, Jordan Smith, 18, and Brandon Ary, 19, lost their lives in the crash.

The Walker County Sheriff says the plane was reported taken.  Two 911 callers reported hearing a possible crash, but the mother of one of the teenagers, Jordan Smith, says her son was given the keys to the aircraft.

Smith and Montgomery attended Meek High School.  Ary graduated from there.  Grief counselors are expected at the school tomorrow.
