South Carolina's backup quarterback Dylan Thompson may have won the Outback Bowl for the Gamecocks Tuesday against Michigan, but it is his teammate, Jadeveon Clowney, that is grabbing all the attention for his brutal hit on a Wolverines' running back.
Clowney, a 6-foot-6, 256-pound All-American defensive end, made the hit of the bowl season, maybe even the year, on Michigan's Vincent Smith during the game. At full speed and unblocked, Clowney barreled directly into Smith just as he received a handoff from his quarterback, sending the running back's helmet flying into the air and causing him to fumble in the process. Clowney then stomped on Smith as he recovered the fumble he had just caused by palming the ball with his left hand.
This play will be replayed over and over again for years to come, more specifically, next year, when Clowney will be a likely candidate for the top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
