DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris states that around
11:30pm on New Year's Eve night DeKalb County Sheriff's Office received a call
on a breaking and entering at 4801 County Road 24 in the Painter area. When Lt
Brown, Lt Rigstad and Deputy Oliver arrived on the scene they found the door had
been kicked in.
Dennis Eugene Johnson, of 742 County Road 129 Crossville, an
acquaintance of Donald Phillips, and Amanda Michelle Thompson, went to the
residence and forced his way into the residence. During the altercation Johnson
received injuries from a hammer, Phillips received injuries from an axe handle
and Thompson also received injuries. The DeKalb Ambulance Service was called to
the scene and all three were transported to Marshall Medical South were Johnson
was later transported to Huntsville Hospital where he remains in the ICU in critical
condition.
