UAB routs Northeastern 83-63 at Bartow Arena; Senior guard dismissed

Preston Purifory and Terrence Jones each scored 17 points as the UAB Blazers routed Northeastern 83-63 at Bartow Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Blazers won their second straight game at home behind double-digit scoring efforts from four different players. Junior forward Jordan Swing chipped in 15 points in the game to go along with his nine rebounds and seven assists. Rod Rucker grabbed 10 rebounds and totaled 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field.

UAB finished 26-55 (52.7%) shooting from the field.

The Blazers moved to 7-6 on the year, and have two non-conference games remaining on the schedule before their Conference USA road-opener against Central Florida on January 9.  They will host Georgia Southern on January 2 before traveling to take on Dayton January 5.

Senior guard Jekore Tyler dismissed from the team

UJekore Taylor (UAB Photo)AB head coach Jerod Haase announced after the win over Northeastern that senior guard Jekore Taylor has been dismissed from the Blazers basketball team.

"Jekore is dismissed from the team." Haase said. "I'm still meeting with him about some other things as well trying to help him in any way that I can, but in terms of being on the court this year, he will not be there."

Taylor, a Port Arthur, Texas native, averaged 4.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in 12.3 minutes per game last season.

    A new survey indicates that a majority of parents in the United States with children in public school systems would rate the quality of their children's schools as above average. Among those polled, 66 percent of parents would rate the quality of their child's school as above average or excellent.
