Two people have been arrested in west Jefferson County after deputies discovered an active meth lab at a home where they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
On Thursday, Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputies were asked to assist the Dora Police Department in locating a suspect, Courtney Allen Norwood, wanted for assaulting an officer and receiving stolen property. Dora Police obtained information that Norwood was at a residence at the 4700 block of Watkins Road.
Upon entering the home, deputies found Norwood in a bedroom where he was apprehended after he briefly attempted to elude capture. Also in the room was a female, Jennifer Leigh Phillips, who was found in possession of Roxycodone in a syringe.
During a complete search of the residence, authorities discovered an active meth lab located in another bedroom and methamphetamine in a bathroom.
Norwood, 33, was taken to the Dora City Jail on charges of Unlawful Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He has since been transferred to the Walker County Jail and is being held on bonds totaling $140,000. Upon his release there, Norwood will be transferred to Jefferson County Jail.
Phillips, 26, was taken to Jefferson County Jail on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Her bonds total $21,000.
