Red Cross closing Prichard tornado shelter

The American Red Cross Alabama Region is currently assisting residents affected by Tuesday night's tornadoes and severe weather around the state of Alabama. Updated damage reports indicate that 750 homes were affected with 53 destroyed, 167 major, 189 minor, and 341 affected in some way. 

The Red Cross shelter at the City of Prichard Public Safety Building located at 743 Mt. Sinai Avenue, in Prichard closed their doors at noon Friday. This shelter opened at 10:30pm Christmas night, however to date no one has sought shelter. This shelter location will remain on standby in case the need arises to provide shelter over the weekend. 

Alabama Red Cross volunteers are on the ground providing the following services:
· Volunteers are canvassing affected neighborhoods to hand out water, tarps, clean up kits, and other items to those with homes with minor damage.
· Mobile feeding will continue in the affected areas.
