Hoover Police have arrested a 33-year-old former Spain Park High School teacher for engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19.

Stephanie Suggs Millard, of Moody, faces two felony sex charges for having relations with a male student who was 17 years old at the time. Millard and the student allegedly engaged in relations in March through April of this year. The student has since graduated and is now attending college.

Alabama law makes it a Class B felony for any school employee to engage in sex acts with a student under the age of 19. The Police Department's Family Services Division received information concerning Millard's conduct while she was a teacher at the high school.

Warrants were issued Thursday by the Shelby County District Attorney's office and Millard surrendered to police at 3:45 p.m.

Millard is currently being held on $30,000 bond in the Hoover City Jail and is awaiting transfer to the Shelby County Jail.

Millard is no longer employed by the Hoover City School System.
