SCLC protests Cooper Green firings

Posted: Updated:
BIRMINGHAM - AL -

The local Southern Christian Leadership Conference held a news conference Monday morning on the steps of the Jefferson County Courthouse. The SCLC addressed issues with Cooper Green Mercy Hospital.

Cooper Green will stop inpatient care on December 31 and transition into an urgent care center.

Last week, 210, employees were notified that they will lose their jobs. That included the hospital director, Dr. Sandral Hullett.

Those employees were put on administrative leave, without pay.

The SCLC says that it plans to take legal action, to try and prevent all this from happening, and to take a closer look at the hospital's indigent care fund.

"SCLC and others feel passionate about this project, and ask that injunctive procedures and an investigation be instituted immediately" said Bishop Calvin Woods, President of the Birmingham SCLC.
