Birmingham cab driver charged with Capital Murder for December 8 homicide

Birmingham Police have made an arrest in a early December homicide investigation involving a cab driver.

Broderick Smith, 29, of Birmingham, is charged with Capital Murder for the shooting death of 38-year-old Arlando Pritchett, also of Birmingham, Sgt. Johnny Williams reports.

Pritchett was shot and killed on the morning of December 8 after getting into an altercation with a cab driver, who has since been identified as Smith. Police found the victim around 8:30 a.m. near 2nd Street Southwest and Cotton Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Smith, who was taken into custody the day of the murder for questioning, surrendered to homicide investigators Saturday morning and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
