Defense Act will keep Alabama Air Force wing active

MONTGOMERY - AL -

The National Defense Authorization Act recently passed by Congress includes a provision that will keep a Montgomery airlift wing from being inactivated.
Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions Friday announced the Air Force is allowed to form an alternate force structure plan to save the 908th airlift wing from being inactivated.
The bill also calls for the wing to keep its eighth authorized C-130 aircraft. The 187th Civil Engineering Squadron at Dannelly Field has also been restored from inactivation.
In February, budget cuts moved the Air Force to threaten to take away up to seven of the 908th's C-130 cargo planes.
The Air Force in mid-November told Alabama officials the proposal to relocate rather than retire the cargo planes had been altered.
