BESSEMER - AL -
Thursday, a federal bankruptcy judge approved the new Bessemer courthouse lease. It will save Jefferson County millions of dollars a year.
The new lease will allow the county to continue its operations in Bessemer for 4.5 million dollars a year. That's a reduction of 3.5 million from the previous lease.
Earlier this year, there were discussions about moving the courthouse to a different location to help save the cash strapped county more money.
However, a new agreement was reached. It was approved by the public building authority last month.
