TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama football team held its second practice in preparation for the BCS National Championship Game. The Crimson Tide trained for two hours in full pads for the first time since returning to the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields.

"Coach has a very specific system of how to handle long layoffs, and it's always been very effective," senior center Barrett Jones said. "As usual, we're going back to the basics. We're focusing on us this week and really not working a whole lot on our opponent."

Alabama will practice three more days before taking time off for the Christmas holiday. The Crimson Tide will resume work for top-ranked Notre Dame on Wednesday, Dec. 26.

4-star Juco offensive lineman signs with Alabama

The University of Alabama announced the signing of junior college offensive lineman Leon Brown to a national letter of intent on Wednesday to play football for the Crimson Tide beginning in the 2013 season.

Brown is from Riverdale, Md., but has played the last two years at ASA College in New York City. He was a second-team All-Northeast Football Conference selection in 2012 at tackle. He is a four-star prospect by 247sports.com, ESPNU and Scout.com. Brown is listed as the No. 2 junior college offensive tackle and No. 8 JC prospect nationally by Scout.com.

He will enroll at Alabama in January and participate in the offseason conditioning and spring practice for the Crimson Tide in 2013. Brown provides immediate depth to an offensive line that loses two seniors who will have combined for 90 career starts.

He played for Parkdale High School in Riverdale where he as a first-team All-County selection in 2010. Brown chose the Crimson Tide over Oklahoma, Mississippi, Rutgers and Tennessee.
